Live Recording Tips

1. Mic and record everything.

2. Mic all drums with overheads.

3. Mic amps and DI for bass.

4. Mic horns, strings, vocals.

5. Mic audience.

6. Use splitter and record onto a multi-track recorder.

7. If possible, use in-ear monitors.

8. Keep mics away from floor monitors as much as possible. This will help reduce editing.

9. Avoid recording the FOH stereo feed unless you are recording only vocals and an instrument. For best results, use a separate mixing buss.

Live Mixing Tips

1. Listen to all tracks and edit out all noise.

2. For bands, let the kick drum, bass and maybe keys provide the low end. Dump the stage noise with a high-pass filter.

3. Make it live, use the energy of the audience tracks to create the live feel.
